“We’ve held on our prices for consoles for many years and have adjusted the prices to reflect the competitive conditions in each market, In a statement to The Verge, head of Xbox Communications Kari Perez stated: This year, Xbox seems seems to be matching. In August of last year Sony announced the price increase in certain markets citing inflation and the economic issues. The hardware price hike was also hinted at last year as head of Xbox Phil Spencer stated that Game Pass was around 15% of total revenue from the Xbox Console. I have the PC Only Game Pass and I’ve played games that I wouldn’t otherwise have played such as Battlefield 2042, Madden NFL 23, and some indie titles including Inside and a personal favorite of mine, Ninja Gaiden. This should come as no surprise to gamers as the Xbox Game Pass is arguably the best value for any game subscription service out there.
Microsoft did note that the Xbox Series S will remain at $299.99 and will not change. The price will go from $9.99 to $10.99 and the Xbox Series X will move to $479.99 to match the PlayStation 5.
Xbox has announced a price increase to their on-demand style gaming platform known as Xbox Game Pass. As with everything in 2023, gaming is not absent from inflation. The time has come for Xbox Game Pass to get a price hike.
